Improve Your Money Mindset
Hey, guys! Today, I have a guest post from Kseniya over at The Money Minimalists. Kseniya is a personal finance and real estate blogger and is here to share how to gain a more positive outlook on money. Her social media outlets are linked at the end of this post! Let’s rewind to two and a half years ago. I had just moved to a brand new city, with no connections and decided to jump right into real estate. As a Realtor, I was self-employed and on 100% commission, with no health benefits or any inkling of a salary.
If I could go back, I would change the way I started my real estate career but hopefully my story will help you realize how to overcome the stressors of not having enough money.
One of the things that kept me going during my year of being broke was my long-term vision. My boyfriend is always telling me how impressive it is that I can dream and fight for something that seems impossible to him.
A lot of our money problems might seem like the end of the world, but they are actually temporary. It’s important for us to take a step back and emotionally separate ourselves from our issues and focus on the bigger picture- the long term goals.
We need to take control of our finances and stop letting them control us. And while you can jam pack your day with side hustles, you’ll never achieve the mental financial freedom you desire until you learn to have a positive money mindset.
With so many people currently unemployed and under financial duress due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I wanted to share a few ways how to pin-point the cracks in your money mindset and how to mend them into a more positive outlook on money.
Redefine What Money Means To You
According to a survey by Money and Mental Health, 86% of people with mental health problems “said that their financial situation had made their mental health problems worse.”
So many of us view money as something we lack. We attribute so much pain to money and that in turn makes us fear and avoid it. We need to redefine what money means to us and what it can do for us. Money is just a tool that helps us achieve our goals.
Take this 30 day money mindset journaling challenge that will force you to reflect on your relationship with money and create new money habits!
If we redefine money as something positive rather than something we lack, then it will be easier to attract it.
“I’m A Money Magnet”
“Bring a stack of twenty dollar bills with you by next week!” – As a Realtor, I’ve attended numerous sales trainings but there was one that really stuck with me. The day hundreds of us chanted “I’m a money magnet” while throwing cash up in the air. That’s right, I was in a room with hundreds of people and we all took turns sitting in a chair and were showered with cash.
It was an unconventional class to say the least, but it sure struck a chord with many of us. As we looked around, we saw how much money there was in that room. Enough for everyone to get a piece of the pie.
If we believe we attract money and that money flows to us, it makes earning it easier.
Ditch Your Scarcity Money Mindset
This is probably the most effective way of gaining a positive money mindset. It takes constant effort and strength to maintain a positive money mindset but it starts with thoughts of abundance. Our futures aren’t predetermined at birth and we can always change our path. Some might have an easier journey than others, but by believing there’s enough for everyone, we can handle the obstacles in our way.
J.D Roth puts it well, “With an abundance mindset, you believe there’s plenty for everyone. There’s plenty of wealth, prestige, and happiness to go around. You’re optimistic about the future. You think things will work out even if there are bumps along the way. You make decisions based on the Big Picture rather than a single snapshot in time. It’s easy for you to balance tomorrow and today.”
Adapting to the abundance mindset requires years of reprogramming but it’ll do wonders for you. I have learned to dream bigger and fight for what I believe in.
If we believe that we can access an unlimited amount of money, then dreaming and progressing towards a better life will seem easier.
That wraps up today’s post on having a positive money mindset! We hope you found these tips useful!
